Partnership Trip: Huntsville

Our final stop on the Partnership Trip was in Huntsville, Alabama – Jon’s hometown.  We stayed with Jon’s parents in their apartment in Redstone Village, a retirement community where they have lived for the last year.  While we were there we enjoyed some fun times with Mellina and Arvin (a.k.a. Grammy and Granddaddy) and with Jon’s grandmother (Grandmommy).  We celebrated Thanksgiving a day early with a full Thanksgiving meal, and even celebrated Abigail’s birthday – her first of three parties.

It wasn’t all relaxing, however – while we were in Huntsville, we had the opportunity to sing at Jon’s home church, University Baptist.  They graciously allowed us to have the Tuesday evening service, and quite a crowd showed up!  We shared the story of our calling in song, and shared our heart for ministry among the Roma.  The conversations and questions before, during and after the event were stimulating and encouraging!

We also had the chance to do a few songs for the residents in the Assisted Living section of Redstone Village (where Jon’s grandmother lives).  While we sang, the girls made cards and drawings for the residents.  We’re confident they will find their own ways to minister to folks, no matter where we may go!

Our trip wrapped up with a long drive home on Thanksgiving Day (it’s a great day to travel, very light traffic).  We were tired from the trip, and faced a long list of things to do when we got back.  But it was a wonderfully encouraging time, filled with new partnerships, friendships old and new, and more affirmation that God is guiding us on this journey.  Thanks to so many of you who helped make this such an inspiring trip!!
