I found Jesus the past few days in an unlikely place: in the disconnect. I imagine many of you are like me, connected to the internet about 18 hours a day in some form or another – computer, mobile phone, tablet, television. This past week I had that access for a few minutes each day, and it was blessedly refreshing. I found Jesus this past week in the silence between facebook updates, in that little grey line that separates emails in my inbox, in that little “X” in my taskbar that shows I’m not on wireless.
Social connection is a good thing… but so is the disconnect. It’s amazing how I can be in the same room with someone but completely disconnected with them because I’m too busy trying to connect with someone far away.
I hope you’ve found effective ways to deal with this social connection phenomenon, but if it’s something you struggle with too, I pray you’ll also find a way to disconnect from the internet for a while and reconnect with God and with the loved ones who are right in front of you.
