Back in the fall we tossed out an idea – what if we gathered our own team to come for a week of ministry, learning and growing? The result was an experience we called “MissionConnect,” and it was better than we could have planned or hoped! On May 29, four people arrived in Kosice – Blake Hart from CBF of South Carolina, Wes and Patsy Jeffcoat from Alabama, and Penny Jenkins from Virginia. Each day had a learning theme and we planned ministry and learning times around those themes. Themes helped us answer questions like, “How do the Roma experience God?” and “Why is education so important in the Roma situation?”
The week was so full we could post dozens of great photos… but here’s just a sampling that tells the story of the week. Are you or your church interested in a mission experience like this? We’d love to talk with you!
The team arrived on Friday (May 29) tired, but ready to serve and learn!
On Saturday morning we traveled to Rankovce to be with Tanya’s girls’ discipleship group.
A beautiful Saturday afternoon found us at an unusual event – an American football game here in Kosice!
The boys from Jon’s discipleship group really enjoyed the game, even though they didn’t completely understand the rules.
Sunday morning took us to worship at Devleskero Kher church, and afterwards we shared lunch with some church leaders and special friends.
Sunday evening found us back at the church for a closing celebration with our English learners.
On Monday we had a great time participating in an event for International Children’s Day in Rankovce, where we helped kids win prizes by getting in shape…
and learning to throw a football. It was a beautiful and fun day!
Tuesday evening we were back in Rankovce for our English classes.
The team helped with small-group discussion and learning activities, to help reinforce things they’ve learned this spring.
Wednesday found us back in Kosice at the Roma school, where these precious kids charmed the team with beautiful smiles!
Team members played learning games with the kids, who were proud to show off what they’ve learned.
Afterwards we shared lunchtime with the kids. We enjoyed the school’s hospitality all day!
Of course, there were times for seeing and learning about the beautiful and historic city of Kosice.
On Thursday we assisted in English classes in Kezmarok at the Roma high school. Lots of games and fun discussions!
And we enjoyed the talents of the Kesaj Tchave group.
We closed the week with a morning in the Tatra mountains, enjoying the beautiful world God has made…
We said goodbye early Sunday morning as the team departed, after eight days packed with learning and service.
Loved seeing pictures from this week! Looking forward to seeing you guys in August!
Thanks, Sylvia – us too. 🙂
