We are very grateful for your prayers for our CHE Training this past weekend – your prayers were felt, and made a difference!
Thursday through Saturday, a total of 15 people gathered at a conference center near Kosice to begin learning more deeply about the strategy and theology behind CHE (Community Health Evangelism). The training time was intense, but also active and engaging – we learned together through activities, role-playing, Bible studies, skits and discussions.
Our first goal in providing this training is to help people see a broader and deeper way of helping communities here in Slovakia. Jesus ministered to people’s spiritual and physical needs together… but a lot of Christian work in communities focuses only on one or the other. Is it possible to keep both the Great Command and the Great Commission (see explanation at the end of the post) at the same time? Is it possible for Jesus’ followers to work for the good of the whole person (not just their soul) and the whole community (not just the church)? We believe so, and we believe CHE is one way to do that.
Our second goal is to begin a discussion around the question, “What might this kind of work look like here in Slovakia?”
Below you’ll see a few pictures of our time together. PLEASE KEEP PRAYING – this was only the first training session, so there’s more learning and discussion to come. Please pray…
- That God will be working in the hearts and minds of the participants as they process the things we learned together.
- That God would make it possible for the participants to return for the second weekend (Oct. 20-22)
- That God would give us guidance in the planning process – particularly in how we can create a space in the busy training schedule for important discussions and questions.
The Great Command – “Love the Lord your God… and your neighbor as yourself.” (Matt. 22:37, 39)
The Great Commission – “Go and make disciples of all nations…” (Matt. 28:19-20)
